I notice mike has been supplying info on web cluster spots. I have been collecting the weekend spots from GB7DXM located near Ipswich and sending these on to John G4GVC by the packet network. It would seem that not all clusters in the UK accept spots from more distant sites. GB7DXM dispays spots form most of Europe, and since early this year I have seen spots from as far away as OK and I5 on 136KHz. On the question of 'propagation time'...I entered a spot for the DL /P
operation as 1800 DJ8WL cq 136.6khz hand cw (or similar) and 3 mins later received a 'correction from an Ok station who had entered correctly as 136khz.
It seems that the original cluster software will not accept spots entered below 1800KHz, though some of the newer software clones are more flexible. I am sure that at least south-east cluster-nodes should be able to accept the spots that appear at GB7MXM. It may be that they dont want them, I am not aware of the 'politics'. I have certainly found the entries useful despite my 'listen-only' status
at present, and I have made a point of flagging up the stong G stations I hear in the hope of stimulating activity (and rx improvement??) in other areas. If there is any interest I am happy to post a copy of the spots during the weekend every Monday.
I am sure John will not begrudge his 'personal service'
