Stephan, Here on a Centos box (yes I know ...) it all works as expected (after I got the dependencies resolved) vtubx -F 10 -S /dev/ttyACM0 gives a nice fast flash rate of the LED vtubx -F 1 -S /dev/

Hello Nick, Thank you. Good to know that it works for someone. And you're also using a NEO-7M, right? /dev/ttyACM0, is that an usb-to-serial converter? I'm using /dev/AMA0, which is the TXD/RXD pins
