Markus, Thank you, a fine plot of a great machine at work. Nice captures by Peter and Romero. LWPC says ~ 1.8fT in Moonah (180928 1630) per root-watt ERP, nice work Edgar and SAQ. 73, Jim AA5BW From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Markus Vester Sent: Saturday, September 29, 2018 3:35 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: VLF: SAQ Test Good point.
During tuneup, the speed of the alternator is manually adjusted using motor resistors and a frequency counter, but it is never perfectly constant. I have temporarily shifted the zoom on my grabber from NML to SAQ's frequency (see attached screenshot, with colours swapped from blue to green for better visibility). Between several sudden frequency excursions we can see a general upward trend, perfectly matching that in Edgar's spectrogram.
Jan Steinbach from SAQ has sent an email confirming the Sep 28 test transmission.
Best regards, Markus (DF6NM)

It looks like the SAQ received signal frequency ramps upward ~ 25 Hz (over the 16:25 – 16:45 UT period) at Edgar’s QTH. On Peter’s spectrogram I can’t see a frequency change but the resolution of the spectrogram appears to be 100 Hz. Was the transmitter frequency probably ramping during the test? 73, Jim AA5BW Yes Edgar thats it, a dash at the right time and frequency. 73, Markus |
