LF Group, Thanks once again to those reporting: G3XDV DF2JP and IZ7SLZ and also to Alan for his perspective on mechanisms of the pond hopping signals! There was a deep fade until about 0300 when the breaker for the Decca psp was closed. I switched it off earlier looking in vain for a pps from a GPS unit. Every time the OP was keyed the scope protested. Would it be beneficial to send some long carriers with phase inversions at intervals in preparation for EbNaut?
