The two cheaper sound dongles from "vendor B"
finally arrived today. They had been sent from an address in Berlin
although there was a link to "softsilkroad.com" stamped on the
parcel.
As predicted by Alan, these soundcards look similar
to the Syba devices, but only support mono input with 48 kHz samplerate.
The bottom of the product card correctly suggest an "Optional
mono microphone".
All the best,

Two of those http://www.ebay.de/itm/121666143901 (seller audvidcom2, 13.90 € per piece +
1.70 postage, originally Paul-Henrik's
link) arrived today Plugged them in and
found that they are good: 96 kHz stereo input, chipset VIA VT1630A
according to booklet.
Still waiting for two of the cheaper ones
from http://www.ebay.de/itm/311030647266 (seller easybuyb2c, 3.28 p.p. + 0.0). Though the ad states that
the articles are located in Berlin, the confirmation email from the seller
reveals that he actually resides in Beijing. We'll see what we
get...

Thanks Paul-Henrik and Alan,
just ordered a couple of those.
There seems to be a similar looking device for only
3.28 Euro on
which may or may not be the suspected Chinese mono
version - we'll find out when this one arrives in a week or
so.
BTW I have a couple of the "3D-Sound" devices here
and they are definitely mono only. But nevertheless very useful - one is
occasionally running as a narrowband VLF receiver (synced by GPS 1pps
injected to the antenna path), another one feeds the Loran-C
grabber.
Best 73,

Replying to myself...
I have no personal experience with the product.
