Hello all. This is encouraging news after last nights fried fets,
flashing fuses and ICs. It is as if there there is parasitic coming from
the new exciter so an older version was tried last night. The PA now
seems happy -- at least it no longer hisses like a foul tempered pussycat.
Another episode of the Opera is planned for tonight.
Andreys QRG report is gratefully acknowledged along with the helpful
advice of G3XDV and G0NBD.

Hi Graham,
It seems like poorer condx but it could be TX trouble too. There's
a sharp spike & ringing on the leading edge of the square wave as
it goes from the 4427 to the hexfet gate. Putting more uF across
the Vdd of the 4427 didn't help and there is still hissing unless
one stands on the left foot with one's hand in the pocket.
RF is fascinating.
Let's have another go tonight. Oh by the way, am I on frequency?
I miss the accurate QRG reports of Markus' OPDS.

Hi Graham, Jean-Pierre and group,
Thank-you JP and Graham for the reports. This was the first attempt
with the new exciter comprising 7493, 7400 and 4427 chips wired on a bit
of perfboard on the bottom of this (poor) photo. Above this are 2 earlier
breadboards with 74161 and 4011 chips and above that a 10 MHz ref.osc amp
and 4020 divider chip. To the left are the Arduino and DDS60 boards and
an antenna changeover relay. The jack for the CW key is on the LHS of the
perfboard.
Seeing 10 reports on pskreporter last night was gratifying but there is
still work ahead... the TX has hissing fits from time to time. QRO is
in the future when some cores and caps can be sourced for a new PA.
