Hi Laurence,
Nice experiment. A few OMs tried a full size dipole for MF now, me too.
TX wise it is not as bad as expected by some theoretical focused OMs,
despite the little height above ground. For /p, it is a real
alternative, better than a 10m vertical i think. But there are better
systems, as you say.
Good luck in KH6. This may be interesting for the VK / ZL OMs!!

WE2XPQ Palmer Alaska is on CW info loop 475kHz thru
today for continued ground wave profiling - will be on WSPR2 tonight.
200W TPO - and a few Watts ERP. Mix Pol.
We tested a full size squashed (over 5 acres) resonant dipole at 30ft
for 475kHz (some 500ft each leg) last night but it didnt manage to get
a signal out of State - Z was 100ohms given its 'folded state' but was
matched at feedpoint ok - I dont intend to keep this up as its Dx
performance on rx was "ok" but typically (but not all the times) worse
than the K9AY and L400bs. It took me nearly 4 days total time to errect
as I was interested to at least try it out against the calcs and books
- Ill probably use of the the legs and readjest heights into some form
of long wire/beverage.
Conditions are still pretty dire with no station >3000Kms decoded
last night. Hope the Coronal holes, CME, elevated College K, Protons
all go on holiday soon. Nothing coming over the North or South poles at
the moment.
Talking of holidays -
Early heads up I hope to be QRV some nighttimes on MF rx from KH6 20th
Sept for about ten days - unsure if it will come together but liable to
be a mobile set up on the wrong side of the islands for USA - unlikely
real time uploads this time around. Asus Netbook/SDRIQ/L400 variant
