Here another  one: OP and family on their roundtrip through Alska in Homer 7/93. No HAM-activity.

Its pretty (sun) lit 24 hours a day here in Alaska -  but I tried a little MF and LF reception using a sky-hook over our Memorial weekend from our camping  site around 250 miles South of Wasilla.
 
As I thought there was very little "DX" to be seen for the short period I listened but at least you can take photos and fly Kites at midite up here... it was pretty quiet but I could still detect lightning from the West and Central coast areas of the USA.
 
The Kit is a "PoweSled 24" up around 200ft or so in very light winds    http://kl7uk.com/homer.jpg
 
The real reason for coming here was the Halibut fishing - heres an 80 or so pounder my son caught just off the coast -
