LF: Re: 137kHz Rules and Regs - PLC QRM?

Hi Warren,

 

the point may have been discussed on this list before, but I don't remember which thread it was... If there is significant coupling between PLC and LF antennas and both are using a common frequency range, wouldn't you expect to see some QRM from them? Are you observing any of this? 

 

And I was wondering if the random dashes which sometimes appear on different Canadian and US grabbers might be PLC related, perhaps some sort of slow multitone system? Attached is a recent example from VE1VDM.

Hello the list...

   The FCC is looking to authorize the 135.7-137.8kHz ham band in the U.S. with 1 W EIRP and beyond that possible restrictions on antenna height and power - also they may implement some restrictions based on proximity to power line carrier (PLC) equipment. Having operated WD2XGJ with up to 4W ERP (6.5W EIRP) within 300 meters of a power line with an active PLC, I feel that this is overly restrictive.

    Can anyone tell me what the rules and practice are in Europe and also Canada? 

I would like to include this info in my response to the FCC.
