Beacon away Stefan -:-) Im looking at HF conditions over the Pole,
QRSS snapper at
http://kl7uk.com/Alaska.html
and I can normally very roughly scale these for LF/MF - ie "when its
not good on any HF band to Eu its likely that MF or LF will be worse
syndrome" - this only holds for here....
At the moment Im seeing only weak signals with some spreading at 10MHz
with that lovelyfast doppler sound which again isnt a good sign - and
thats with a K=1 at mid lat.
I didnt see any Aurora last night as I was fixing up my 8 inch Meade
telescope but had difficulty in looking at anything as the water vapor
from my eye condensed and froze onto the viewfinder. Takes me back a
few years when we were still using Sextants for Polar travel -
The nice thing is the gear is not all moved into the office and I can
sit in comfort and not freezing my Annulus off.

Subject: Re: LF: Transpolar Long carrier test 137.7800 WE2XPQ tonight
Hi Laurence,
I wish you good luck. The best chance may be to appear at DF6NM's µHz
spectrogram. I don't expect you to see you in my 22 mhz spectrogram so
i will have an eye on Markus' results and will be on air for myselfe
this night again, BACON to the west, in DFCW-90 on 136.172 kHz, as
usual ;-) Or do you want me to watch out for you as well?

WE2XPQ will be conducting a continuous carrier test overnight on
137.7800 kHz from around 0100Z till around 1600Z Tonight (thats in a
few hours time).
Conditions over the Polar regions are getting better but less than fair
at the moment but worth investigating. A no show is still a result :-)
Transmitter will be the GPS/10MHz disciplined HP3336B via 4046 squarer
and 4426 driver to the Decca 5501 Amp at around 600W into a Fir tree
140m loop - ERP is likely to be less than 0.5W in the main lobe
040/220deg T
The loop will be modified this coming week if the weather breaks but
its been blowing 40Kts gust and -25C so still nippy on the face and
fingers to do long term outside work. We are also in a "Red Flag"
warning area so have to be careful with sparks and flames..
