Hello Roger,

not all countries will loose their access to 501-504kHz on 01-01-2013.

So far BIPT (our OFCOM) hasn't yet announced that Belgian hams will have access to 472-479kHz, nor withdrawn the access to 501-504kHz.

I am not sure about the situation in PA and EI, but if they make the move on 01-01-2013 it seems that I will have my private band ;-) ... unless another ON shows up.

So I am looking forward for split frequency QSO from 01-01-2013 onward.

I'd like to come onto the band for one last CW QSO but we have grandchildren here, so access to the shack is very limited. Putting on the WSPR beacon has been possible a couple of afternoons before the grandchildren go to bed, but I have to QRT by around 6-7pm.

May I make a suggestion? Please can a few people RECORD the last hour or so on the 500kHz band? This was done by G5UM and others back in the 1940s when the old 56MHz band was withdrawn, but sadly the record is now lost (unless anyone can tell me otherwise).

In years to come, such recordings will be a valuable piece of amateur radio history. Never again will amateurs transmit on 500kHz.

MF / LF,

Excellent MF conditions last night permitted some fine cross-band QSO's (502 / 472 kHz):

DF0WD        21.00    599    Wolf        Spenge
DK6SX/P      21.19    589    Willi        Stuttgart
DK3WX        21.38    579    Bernd      Berlin

Since receiving my NOV in March 2007 I have had 1766 QSO's on MF (including cross-band)
I shall miss the old band and hope that the new one gives as much pleasure.

Hopefully there will be a burst of activity to wish 501-504 kHz a final farewell.
