Stefan
you do not need a rotator. As I said orientate the vert loop in the desired direction for DX and there will also be sufficient capture of signals in the local environment. If I had this mast I could educate it for my requirements.
What is the problem!!

Instead of a totally vertical antenna suspend a full size one wavelength loop for both TX and RX. orientated in the desired direction.
A brilliant idea.
A full size loop for 630m, i assume you mean a vertical loop, has a diameter of 200m. I suggest to use this rotor: http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/7206/motorzv4.jpg :-)

If I had a large tower available like the one described I would not have a problem either on TX or RX

Hi Holger,

Thanks for the information/update! Nice to know that they are proceeding and they obviously know what to do :-)

The idea with the VHF link is very good but maybe they only need to detune the TX antenna to get much better results. This can be done by a RX/TX relais (22k (ish) resistor across that). Will they try that? Maybe they can reduce the needed efforts... Using Twente SDR is of course another idea for a separated RX but it may be to far during the time the band is still closed or to copy weak local stations...

Unfortunately i am not in Heidelberg this weekend :-(

DK0SWF second DARC Mainz 630m operation Sat. Oct. 13th until 14th 2012

Members of the DARC group Mainz/Germany will be operating again on 630m during the coming weekend! They will use a full quarter wave commercial verical! They will startSaturday, Oct. 13th around 16:00 UTC, staying on the air until Sunday 14th around 06:00 UTC. This time they will try different receiving antenna types, hoping to improve the receiving capabilities.

For example, they will also use a better receiver (now R&S EK70) plus a specially designed rx/tx filter, a 472 kHz receiving loop and a second (10km separated) receiving station, linked via VHF.

Please listen for them on 473,500 kHz for any cq calls. They will also use 472,500 kHz temporarily but rather like to keep this one free for other users. QSX on other frequencies (e.g. between 501 and 503 kHz or even cross-band 80m) will be announced.

They are looking forward to work some more of the active 630m stations in EU. Receiving reports and any helpful comments are most welcome via eMail [email protected]
