Stephan,

Yes, just an unterminated wire. There is a ground stake at the near end, and I use a hi-z input preamp to drive a Cat5 cable back to the shack. This is all well out in the woods to avoid a rather noisy power line near the house.
It works very well at MF and LF. An elevated wire picks up more signal, but does not improve the SNR. It also causes intermodulation products with NAA on 24 kHz.
John,
Do you have the s/n levels ?
150 mtr wire on the ground ..... actually on
the ground , far end open cct ?
Tnx -G.

Subject: Re: LF: Op32 tonight on 137kHz
Stephan,
It was quite noisy here last night, with storms along the eastern
U.S. In addition to the W1TAG and W1VD decodes at 0213Z, we both had decodes on
the next cycle at 0245, and Jay had one at 0318Z. His K9AY antenna has some
advantage by rejecting noise from the west. My rx antenna here in Maine is just
a 150 meter wire on the ground.
