Hi Stefan, VLF - the staircase was certainly very strong with me - consistently 30dB above the normal Alpha levels and as strong as any other vlf signal up to 24kHz. The Yahoo VLF Group have also pointed out the unusual signals at about 17.5 kHz around 03.00 UTC. Here's my capture:

We've often seen such staircases so far. Sometimes they come down below 9 kHz! But i don't remember to have seen it at such a high S/N.
