Sorry Rik,
Tnx for calling
I think , slowly over the years (yes that long) the
noise level on MF at my qth has risen to the point ,
that Rx on 500 is virtually useless ,
my s/n levels on decode are now
usually 10dB worse than , Gary , g4wgt ,
he is about 25 miles to my east inland,
but in tests last year with John up in the
Shetlands, decodes with only watts to my
Ae where possible ..so the actual 'system' is
working ......may be its a case of too
much gain/Q ..... perhaps one of the 'mini'
type of systems will solve the problem.
Glad the Op qso system is working , at -20
dB lower limit , its not as low as the
ROS-MF 2 system, but , its real CW with on/off
keying, and can withstand 45/50 % random
data loss, which is I think unique in a data mode?,
you can copy the last 50% and still decode.
with ros-mf you need to catch the lock
frame and others , interleaves of 60 seconds
would require very long tx periods ?
After all it was 100 years after the
introduction of hardware based real CW data
before Mr Morse came along with his coding system ... :

Graham,
I copied your
Opera CQ call very well
(abt 0dB SNR) and replied several
times, but no succes.
I was running 20W (abt 50mW
ERP).

Who says 500 CW is dead ?
Opera QSO mode , providing the link PA0A /
G0NBD , with decodes down to -19 dB my
side , (Not due to Pa0a signal, but due to some
as yet un-discovered Rx signal loss in my
Rx path, or simply very high local noise
levels now ) , using real ON/OFF Carrier
Wave modulation as well .....also PA0A / OR7T.
