Dear Roger,
The current Notice of Variations (NoV) for operations in the 501 – 504kHz band are due to expire on the
29 February 2012. This date was set as it would be after the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) World Radio Conference (WRC-12), when the outcome of
WRC-12 Agenda Item 1.23 would be known.
The conference concludes on 17 February 2012 so we will most likely expect information on the outcome to be added to the Ofcom website at
http://licensing.ofcom.org.uk/radiocommunication-licences/amateur-radio/licensing-updates/ after this date.
We hope that this helps.
Kind regards

Subject: Special Research Permit G3XBM
Dear Sir/Madam,
My Special Research Permit (NoV) to operate at 501-504kHz expires on Feb 29th 2012 and I wish to renew it please.
However, I hear news today that WRC-2012 has approved 472-479kHz as a new worldwide secondary allocation for the amateur radio service and I am wondering what OFCOM plans regarding the general release of this band? Will it be opened immediately to all UK radio
amateurs and NoVs for 501-504kHz withdrawn?
Kind regards
Roger Lapthorn
