More to the point, how to connect the other end of the USB cable to the transmitter, given that it only contains fixed 0, +5V power supply connections and a differential pair carrying high-speed bi-directional data. The usual solution is to use one of the inexpensive USB - RS232 converters. The one in use here takes the form of a cable with USB plug on one end and D9 plug on the other, containing the interface circuit. It seems to work fine.
