Your cw is not the problem you need more THUMP so
others can hear you over the garden fence. You can see XIZ from your
qth.
The UK QRP culture on the lower frequencies
is a handicap for stations further away hearing them and having a QSO, also
beacon activity does not help, especially when the broadcast invites reports
via Email, Telephone, Mobile phone texts and snail mail.
Some are also confusing underground gas pipe and
electric cable propagation with amateur radio.

MF.
I called CQ several times over the weekend and
had a QSO with G3XIZ, but no further replies to my calls. I know my cw is
slow and not the best but I do try.

Ever since the Dutch cw operators went QRT the band
has nil acty. Activity from the UK is pathetic considering the number of
persons permitted to operate on the band, the same applies to 9 khz. If
you believe Twitter and Tweet from some quarters the band is
congested!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but it seems mostly Underground using gas pipes
and electric cables, elevated antennas not allowed.
G3KEV is available 24/7 on 500 and 137 khz CW and
QRS3 in emergencies.
