Before disappearing to my son's in London yesterday I tried an overnight 8.97kHz reception of Uwe and was puzzled why I failed to get him as usual when others in the UK did. Well, I found out.

Remember the weekend and M0BMU's test on 500kHz CW? Guess who rushed to tune the loop to 500kHz and failed to reset it to 8.97kHz! The loop, way off tune on 8.97kHz, was still able to lock onto GBZ and this is what confused me. I must remember to check the Alphas every time and on Monday night I completely forgot, so was probably 20dB deaf on VLF.

We learn by our mistakes. Next time Jim goes out portable on 500kHz I will write a big note over the ATU.
