There is no need for QRS600 etc if the VLF TX station is properly equipped for the job and likewise the RX station has a suitable antenna and receiver.
Is this QRB of 831 Kilometres the best DX for DK7FC being received at QRS1 and QRS3 speed.

Mal,

your pictures are quite convincing, we can now be sure that you were indeed seeing Stefan's signal all the time today.

Congratulations, well done!

Best regards,
Markus (DF6NM)

PS: It would be fantastic if you would want to set up a loading coil and TX, and perhaps conduct a two-way VLF QSO next time Stefan's comes on...

I did take a few shots and did see u close down at the end but I was experimenting more with  QRS speeds to see what happened to your signal. At the end there was some dfcw but I did not take any photos at that time. Your signal was solid all day on 8970 when you were on carrier then keying, no mistake about being the dk7fc signal.
See attached photos and some drift of a few Hz at my end.
Today I was only concerned at signal strength at various QRS speeds and not what was being keyed. Now that I know my system is working next time we should try a QSO. The signal was peaking 23 dB above noise as indicated on speclab and my QTH is vy quiet with no noise.
My screen is adjusted/calibrated for acty at 1000 hz plus minus a few Hz and look at 1004 Hz for your signal.
Ignore the qrm trace on the LF side of 1000 Hz

Mal,

Stefan and I are truely amazed how well you apparently copied today's transmission on 8970 Hz. Seeing it in 3 sec and 1 sec resolution seems really quite remarkable. The three screenshots you have sent to the RSGB reflector show a good-looking line on 1004 Hz, which in one case indeed ends at the right time (14:47 UT).

I am wondering if you perhaps have more screenshots showing features or modulation of the signal. Before closing down, between 16:03 and 16:26 Stefan sent a DFCW-60 message using 0.5 Hz shift (see attached), which should have been visible on your screen. Did you by chance take a screen copy of that time?

Not sure if resonating the antenna would really improve receive SNR further - with a large antenna you probably have enough signal and external noise to dominate over the RX noise contribution. Anyway it seems you are doing very well with the system as is.

Best 73,
Markus (DF6NM)

See capture of switch off on 8970 Khz  at 1448 utc speclab qrs3. Good signal all day on 8970 various modes.
Read freq line 1004
