The most efficient and simple method of arriving at a required inductance for a PA application is to use a tapped coil, this way you get exactly the amount ot L needed.
Other methods like variometers, and slug tuned coils introduce loss ie extra lossy turns not needed,  iron slugs, copper slugs alter the Q factor also indroduce loss.
