Hi All

Indeed, I will be QRV on 8.970 over the period, though perhaps not as well kitted as Chris!  I’ll post details of when on the air on the reflector

Best wishes and happy Christmas to all

With best regards

Jim

Subject: LF: VLF Tests - G3XIZ

Season's greetings to all,

I have had permission from the UK Meteorological Office to transmit VLF from 27th December to 3rd January.
I shall be transmitting at odd times between these dates and will give more specific details via the reflector.

Location:  IO 92 UB
Freq:        8.9719 kHz
Mode:      QRSS (using variable speeds)
Power:     50 watts RF
Aerial:      40m end fed inverted 'L' , height 10m

I have increased power and plan on occasion (weather dependent) to use a captive balloon aerial, height about 50m.

My best 'DX' to date is Dennis M0JXM at 1.5 km; many thanks Dennis.

Pete M0FMT has made considerable efforts to receive my signals, even driving around in his car with a laptop PC but so far
results have been less than spectacular.
Knowing Pete he will not be disheartened.

Roger G3XBM and Jim G7NKS have also been trying to receive me, and themselves transmitting on VLF.
I believe that they will both be QRV over the Xmas break.
Locally, Nick G4IKZ is making considerable efforts to receive me.

Many thanks for the encouragement and advice from reflector members; this is always welcome.
Let's hope that I manage to get some more reports (and a few more km) before long.
