Having managed to apply power the wrong way round on my 4W VLF beacon TX yesterday and destroyed several ICs and caps I built a smaller unit today and did some local tests to see how far I could receive it by earth mode conduction/induction. The TX puts out 320mW QRSS3 into 50 ohms and this was applied directly to the earth electrode antenna (20m spacing). The signal was copyable at 1.5km away using the 80cm loop, preamp and PC running Spectran (see file attached showing the XBM part of my call). An attempt to receive this at 5.1km failed, although there was a hint of a signal just visible perhaps. Chris G3XIZ will be testing on 8.917kHz on Sunday evening from 2000-2200gmt in QRSS10 and DFCW with 20W to a vertical. 73s Roger G3XBM -- http://g3xbm-qrp.blogspot.com/ http://www.g3xbm.co.uk http://www.youtube.com/user/g3xbm G3XBM GQRP 1678 ISWL G11088
