I've now configured my loop to be fully "in the air" with no ground connections. As expected, tuning is now much more critical as I don't have about 50 ohms of earth loss dampening the tuning. First reports with this on 500kHz WSPR suggest it is a few dB better than the earth electrode antenna with elevated feed wires (-9dB S/N versus -12/13dB at best from M0BMU at 69km). The loop is now tuned and matched for 137.675kHz and the QRSS3 beacon is ON this evening. I'd be most interested to know if the signal is any better.
