Hi Roger,
I'm not surprised it works better with an
aerial!
Will look for you on 137.675, what time are you
starting?

Subject: LF: Earth electrode "antenna"
changes: reports needed on 500kHz + 136kHz please
Today I've changed my earth electrode antenna system: instead
of running the wire to the far electrode along the garden fence only about
1.5m in the air I've now made the wire form a loop, bringing the wire up in
the air some 4m, running it back to the house about 17m to the top of my
pole, then down 6m vertically and into the house. This means the area
enclosed by the loop part in the air has increased some 3 to 4 times but
that part within the ground between the electrodes is unchanged. On 500kHz
WSPR I'm ~6dB stronger with M0BMU at 69kms than it was on the original earth
electrode antenna.
This evening I'm going to try 137.675kHz QRSS3
beaconing with this new set-up and would appreciate
reports.
