For your info chaps - Ive tagged another email at the end. Im now back in Oklahoma... Laurence KL 1 X in 5
Laurence,
We now also have Kevin ZL4MD QRV on 500. I have copied him on 508.070kHz tonight, very strong, sending just OOK CW at about 10 WPM. His antenna is much better than mine, so probably would be better copy up there. I don't believe he has a computer, so QRSS120 would be stopwatch stuff!

Hi Laurence,
As you may have heard, we now have permission for operation on 600m in ZL. The band is 505 to 515kHz, 25W EIRP permitted, and any mode under 200Hz bandwidth.
In the short time since the new band was posted (came into use 1st March), I've been quite successful. My first equipment was rather thrown together, but managed to make ZL4 on 20W. Just this week I've managed to deploy my big LF transmitter on MF, mostly by just winding new low pass filters, but there were many other things to attend to as well.
The best DX so far (as far as being heard goes) is VK2, about 2500km. I'm keen to extend that, and while being heard in the continental US might be a bit of a stretch (given my very modest equipment and especially antenna), I'd certainly be keen to try. QSOs are harder to come by as there are very few stations able to TX here yet, and most have been cross-band.
I can run just about any mode since I use an SSB exciter (Redifon DU505) driven by PC software, and have modified the big transmitter for EER, so even PSK31 and other modes with envelope modulation are practical. My transmitter power is about 250 - 300W out, and the antenna is an inverted L 8m high and 30m long with very poor ground.
My preferred operating frequency is 508.1kHz (centre) and I normally transmit the following message, which takes about 7.5 minutes:
'ZL1EE' in Sequential MT-Hell, QRSS3
'ZL1EE' in CASTLE (OK for QRSS3 and QRSS10)
Carrier segment on exactly 508.100kHz, two minutes long (useful for QRSS120)
'ZL1EE' in slow Morse, on-off keyed on exactly 508.100kHz
A quiet period of about 90 sec
The exciter is GPS locked, so exactly where I say it is, and I could run QRSS120 transmissions to suit, although best in the weekends. I am at present putting out a signal most evenings if/when I am home, between 0600UTC and 1000UTC. Could you pass the word around over there please? I'm not sure how to make contact with other MF listeners in the US or Canada.
