I guess distance makes a big difference on 500kHz.

I was not in a position to call Pedro last night, but at 2030z ON7WP 
was 559 here in Bracknell IO91PJ. At 2100z he was peaking 579 on the 
meter. Solid copy by ear all the time. There seemed to be nobody else 
on the band to answer his CQs.
