Dear Mal, LF Group,

The ERP of the station is the most meaningful parameter for assesing the strength of the radiated signal. From the TX system design point of view, RF power is important, and for those interested in antennas, the value of antenna gain (at LF/MF, mostly the efficiency component of the gain) is of the greatest interest.

Any one figure gives some information, but is only part of the picture. If you have any two of these figures, you can work out the third. Of course, some stations take the least meaningful option of quoting no figures at all!

Cheers, Jim Moritz

Why are the majority of 500 Kcs ops quoting so many watts RF. This is confusing, is this pwr DC input, RF to the antenna or what? I thought it was agreed to quote ERP, to quote otherwise is meaningless if one does not know the antenna gain.
