Subject: LF: definition of telegraphy
Dear all,
in Belgium we have access to 500kHz since
about 1 year.
Conditions (limitations) are:
- 501-504kHz
- max. 5 W
EIRP
- only telegraphy
- max. 100Hz bandwidth
- only full license
holders
ITU Recommendation R V.662-3 defines telegraphy as "A form of
telecommunication in which the transmitted information is intended to be
recorded on arrival as a graphic document; the transmitted information may
sometimes be presented in an alternative form or may be stored for subsequent
use.". So digital modes could be considered telegraphy and thus allowed on
500kHz.
As we (UBA) reached the 500kHz access only after long negotiations
with BIPT (our Ofcom / FCC) we are very careful in what we do. Therefor we asked
BIPT if they would agree with our point of view.
After internal (read BIPT
legal department) consultation BIPT agreed with us.
So from now on we can use
digital modes on 500kHz. The 100Hz bandwidth limitation is still in force, but
there is plenty of digital modes that stay within this limit.
