Dear Dennis, LF,

thanks for the info!

Being curious, I observed the frequency last night and noticed the mode change at 1:00. This was in fact coincident with the onset of the broadband "Luxembourg" noise on my LF grabber. A spectrum taken of the 177 kHz demodulated audio confirmed the 41.67 Hz bands in the AM component of the multicarrier DRM signal, which are then impressed symmetrically around the DCF39 carrier by the nonlinear ionospheric effect.

This shows that a wide spread use of high power DRM modulated transmitters could have a very significant negative impact on the LF noise background.

Kind regards,
Markus, DF6NM

177kHz DRM-Mode from 2:00 - 5:00 local time, which means of course 1:00-4:00 UT at "wintertime" .
