There have always been aero non directional beacons (NDBs) around 500kHz.

For example, take a look at Martin Francis's (NDB) Signals Received Worldwide web page, and put 495kHz to 515kHz into the frequency box

These are only the NDBs that have been received, by what is really only a handful of listeners, and not all those that exist

Do you mean the usual Marine/Aero  RDF in the lower 400's or are there new
near 500?

Is there anyone transmitting yet on 500 khz. I am receiving lots of
beacons
around this freq area from near and far.
