Signals from EU in the small nighttime window were poorer last night. DCF39 was some -10dB on the previous nights best but still CW audible. Fade periods were shorter than of late at around 5 mins - LW broadcast stations weren't listenable but were there. QRN was moderate with the normal tropical equatorial storms noiz. Ill keep the rx on again tonight - both for my dusk West Coast Americas and my pre dawn European window. I had some spare time to kill yesterday afternoon so I built another PA0RDT probe - this one has a zig zag copper foil pattern aerial (using a sharp wide blade to cut in to the copper clad, but the same dimension as the first and it looks like its added a couple of dBs but not improved the s/n. To improve noize reduction from my external power supplies (common mode) into the probe Ive increased the inductor size to around 900uH feeding the power up the centre of the coax- this has cleared a lot of the residual lines - that and replacing the Dell SMPSU that comes with the D610 with another one I bought here giving only 12V @ 5A instead of the 19V - again this has eliminated the bad squiggles. VLF performance is good and I start to hear sigs (qrn) over noiz at around 8.5KHz Thanks for the signals - till tonight Laurence, in 9V1 OJ11 Express yourself instantly with Windows Live Messenger!
