Hello Bryan,

55 means something like "best success". Originally it results from the German "viele Punkte" (cw interpretation "many dots", where "Punkte" in German can also mean "scores"). You´ll hardly hear it outside of German traffic. It has been used in Germany long before the thirties of the last century - so it should be unsuspected ...
