Andy, Brian, Jim, Laurie, Alan and Walter
what else can I say besides Thank You ! You all gave me a lot of
material to think about and upon which to make my decision. I like very
much the feature of being able to input an external reference at 10 MHz.
I completed a few months ago my own GPSDO (one day, when I will defeat
my lazyness in writing, I will publish the project, based on the Atmel
AT90S8535), so the idea of using it with the Racal is appealing. What
rest to be seen are the actual conditions of that unit, which has been
described as being in good shape and working, but, of course, being the
St. Thomas that I am, I need to see and touch and hear it myself before
departing from the money...

I used an RA1792 for all my narrow band LF work, and it was performed
admirably. The PLL synthesizers appear to have good phase noise
performance, and they can be used down to 8kHz - at which point you
can just begin to hear the BFO noise.
