That is correct. European LW broadcast stations are almost never heard in
California, and even the Experimental Service licensees on 166kHz don't put much
signal strength out there, so Ed Gelinas has a relatively signal-free
environment for covering his neighborhood. He has only operated it with amplitude
modulation so far, but is considering operating it as a conventional Morse
beacon during his "non-broadcast" hours later this year.
