how did you know that I burned out the COM port on my elderly desktop
yesterday by accidentally shooting 64V up the DTR line?
(Trouble is that it's on the mother board and there is one exploded chip and
a nasty smell. I shall have to use the laptop for both send and receive -
once I get the relay driver transistors replaced.)

Never a dull moment!
