16 bits via the serial port beeds really three bytes per sample. It can of
course be sent directly as two 8 bit words, but there is no way of keeping

board for the PC, please don't forget to give a more than casual thought to
the USB port. It is an high-speed serial interface, and can even provide power
supply to the connected devices.
The old parallel and serial ports are on their way to the retirement...
