Peter,
It was a recent mars mission, half the guidance software was in metric and
the other was in imperial , the problem was neither actually knew it a the
time .. and its either on its way, as noted in the hitch hikers guide, to
the cafe at the end of the universe or its the cause of mars surface crater
N + 1 , where N is a big number !
Our submarines sail with two sets of spanners , metric for 'our' bits and
imperial for those items that originate slightly more to the west !

How were these costs incurred? I have a detailed document describing the
first United States manned orbital space flight and that was done using
ft, inches, Lbs, degrees F etc, but that was in 1962. I find it hard to
believe the use the same units these days.
Modern USA scientific literature seems to be metric.
