Thread-topic: LF: ICOM IC706

Hi All

I too have used an opened up 706 mk2g and also a venerable IC 735 to tx on 475 and 137.    The max output on 475 is in the region of 5-10 watts and at 137 a few milliwatts, but with one of the cheap 1w broadband amps on ebay you can get 1w which is ample to then feed into a hafler or similar audio amp

An alternative is to use the ELAD FDM duo with the 0dBm output (where the radio covers 1hz to 200mhz ) and then also boost the 1mw output up to 1 watt with a cheap Chinese broadband ebay amp (~ €20) and then feed the output from that into an audio amp set up as per W1TAG etc

with best regards

Jim

Hello Ken.

Here I use my ICOM 706 model MK2 without any modification, for transmitting on 472 and 137 bands.

On MF it is very important to set the power level to « L » that is the minimum power in the menu. The output power on 50 ohms is about 1.5 Watt. Good signal shape, enough stability for WSPR and all other usual modes, even QRSS 60. I use an external LPF home made.

On LF it is also working nice, but the output power is only about 5 dBm… You need some power extra gain for good results HI !

Best 73 de Andy F6CNI.

Dear All.

Can  all versions of the ICOM   IC-706 be opened up to TX & RX  on 475kHz?
