1200/300 baud 2 tone
Its still running on vhf in some parts, the aprs gang use it for
position reporting , using fm round 144850 ? , but if you take a
tune on 14 meg , its still running in the usa .. according to the
network 105 blurb, it has been since 1986 dwait that long ?

It has evolved into winpack (may need modem software - fldigi) and
ALE networks , which are web linked and handle e-mail , some of the
ale network is not ham based so can not be used by uk stations ,
all are supported by multipsk
D-star , may well be text routing , but its not a free for all like
the other systems and as far as i know is only uhf / vhf due to
bandwidth

Subject: LF: Off topic: Packet radio
Can any of you knowledgable people tell me whether packet radio is
still used on the bands now. Has it been overtaken by email/text? Is
there a D-Star text service instead? Is it perhaps on VHF/UHF but not
HF?
I was very involved with the early days of packet radio, but when I
last looked at it (about 10 years ago) it had not changed/developed
at all.
