I have built several helical verticals for 40m and 20m .

I always used Half wave length of wire to wind it fully .

Then tuned it with a GDO for some resonance and tapped a feed point .

They worked well as fixed and moblie antenna .

Very good write up, many thanks for making it available. I am not really into 136kHz, but I landed on the page looking for ways to model a helically wound antenna. You give some equations for inductive loaded antennas and I also see many references to G4FGQ pages.

 

I am also familiar with the programs that G4FGQ wrote to calculate helically wound antennas. Sadly he is SK, so finally here is the question, would you know what equations he may have used in his programs?
