Try setting the rig to 499.99kc and use the RIT to go up into the 501kc band. No more attenuator!!! That?s what we do on 505-510kc here in the US.

Hi Mal,

Armchair copy here in northwestern DL at the moment. The old TS-690 switches on an attenuator above 500 kHz (like the TS-850),   so no meaningful S-meter reading is possible.
I am calling on 136.8 kHz to give you a "crossband-report".
Dave YXM not heard with my poor RX-setup yet.
