Hi Bob,it's not the coil, it's the "insulators" at the end of the topload wires. In my case not old toothbrushes, but clear plastic sleeves from used-up ballpoint pens. They can arc over when wet, melting the perlon guy line, and leaving the wire dangling from the top of the fishing rod.
