I think, Alan, that to achieve the "Beckham" effect would require that you arrange for the resulting radiation pattern to achieve a "curve" in the general direction of the beam pattern and it will probably be necessary to approach either Penrose or Hawking for the math which will calculate the "bendability" factor on a universal scale!
