How about all the different weights and measures used throughout the world plus the different currencies. The majority of countries do not use the metric system, not even in some parts of EU.

Does it matter, what is wrong with Kilocycles, condensers, and the traditional squiggle for a resistor.

Using different names, symbols or abbreviations can lead to confusion and thus errors.
