That was a  design  decision  , web time  or  cpu load , so  cpu load was 
picked to differentiate the  mode  and to  facilitate remote uses ,  , also 
have up to  32 simultaneous   decodes 2.5/3 Hz  separation , more in the 
wider  decoder  windows  on HF
NB:  could  also  try ros-mf-2   that's the  same  s/n as wspr  and  can 
pass  the  cat + dog test  : )), no  time  locking  , but  needs   sdr / 
audio translation

That's great. Does Alex have no internet access there? Actually he must have internet access, otherwise it may become a problem to sync the PC clock. (Yes Graham, OP needs no time sync, we know :-) ). I would like to try to leave a trace there but i guess that DFCW-90 is more promising over that distance.
On what frequency and in which JT9 mode is Alex watching?
Can you give further advice?
The sun is just going down here, so i guess the path is already open to the east!
