Yes, this is where an actual amateur assignment would be of great benefit. Our justification for existence is both that we advance the art of radiocommunication, and that we provide a reserve of technical skill. Only the former counts for experimental licenses, I suppose. One of the joys of being an amateur is that our experimental efforts don't have to be directed toward a single predetermined objective, but can lead us whichever way the wind blows...or the electromagnetic waves propagate.
