This thread prompted me to do a quick A/B test between my LNV (34
feet tall and 7 foot ground rod) with about 300 feet twisted pair to
the shack. It is in the trees about the same as N1BUGs and a PA0RDT
mini whip (on a 25 foot pole, ground rod at the base) with about 120
feet of RG6 to the shack that is about 75 yards from the LNV and
about 20 feet from a 50 foot tree. I used my SDR I/Q and Spectra View
to look at NDBs at 253, 320 and 332 KHz (picked at semi random for
strong consistent signals). The LNV was 10 DB below the Mini Whip.
The signal to noise was the same as best as I could tell ( bad
thunderstorm noise). The transmit antenna is under construction so I
don't have coupling problems yet.
I seem to hear ok. DCF39 was a regular on the waterfall last winter
along with East and West coast WSPR stations on 137 KHz and an LF
broadcaster was heard a time or two all on the Mini Whip in East
Texas grid EM22nm. Hope this helps.
