Good friend runs a small glass shop and I always stop in and grab any pieces of quarter or three eights inch clear plexi or Lexan. Cut them up 5 or 6 inches long and inch or so wide drill couple holes and they never break down for me! Have some up for over ten years here still look like new. Don't ever use PVC as the sun will dry it out and it fails at the worst possible times! This is how I made insulators that has been in use for close to ten years: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15095569/w4dex/LF/lf_insulator.jpg/*T*/*/wo electric fence plastic "egg" insulators connected by 12 inch sections of fiberglass electric fence post. A hole equal to the diameter of the fiberglass rod was drilled in one end of each egg insulator. The rod was inserted and pined with a small brass nail. This produced a strong lightweight high voltage insulator that was tested to hold 200 pounds. Dex /* |
