Dex, glad to get confirmation that the late captures were of your
sigs. The best I have seen so far is a readable 'X', but otherwise
tantalisingly below the threshold.
I believe we can get another 3dB by moving to a lower frequency. The
one currently in use is in the skirts of the noise from DCF77 and
this will probably affect the mainland Eu stations more than me. I
was unsure whether the reduced noise a kHz or two lower was due to
the resonance curve of my own antenna, and still need to do more work
on this (rainy weather is stopping me at present). I have also tried
to do an overnight wideband spectrum plot, but again have been
thwarted by high static over the last few days.
If that 3dB improvement in SNR is possible then you should be easily
readable on a good night. And the change in the oak trees will
definitely help.
It's interesting stuff. I will publish the result of my noise tests
as soon as I have good data.
